Punk legends The Sex Pistols are re-releasing anarchic anthem God Save The Queen in a bid for a Diamond Jubilee number one. The song, with its opening line "God Save The Queen / A fascist regime / Made you a moron" sung by snarling front man Johnny Rotten, is due out in the last week of May. It will go head-to-head in the charts with an official Jubilee song by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Despite a BBC ban, the single, with a defaced image of the Queen on its cover, got to number two during Royal Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977, pipped by Rod Stewart's I Don't Want To Talk About It. It sold more than 150,000 and fans claimed only a showbiz plot kept it off the top. Now one campaigner on Facebook says: "This song was denied the No 1 for the Silver Jubilee... time for a re-match... who's in?" The Sex Pistols split in 1978 and a year later bass player Sid Vicious died of a drugs overdose while waiting to stand trial on charges of knifing his girlfriend to death.
