Comment:
illegal immigrants are tools in a war against american workers, america is a country of many races but if we see ourselves through racial , gender and orientation identities we're not going to coalesce around a politics of higher living standards

Comment:
"how in hell do we explain this mess without totally loosing face?" Instead of having everyone work all day in farms for just barely enough to eat we have record amounts of people in arts, sciences, research, design, music, and engineering. I don't think it's the time freed up from remedial work via automation that would be appalling factor.

Capitalism has just ...
Comment:
Capitalism has just about run its course. You don't need to spend years studying economics to figure that out. It's a system that requires ever-compounding GROWTH, and how the Hell is that going to be sustained, in a world with finite resources, where automation is year-after-year reducing the need for human labor? If you get rid of all the bullshit jobs that people have now, there's even way less need for human labor. We are so badly organized.

Comment:
The only way I can imagine full employment happening is if people shared jobs and split their hours up and still earned enough with those limited hours that they would still be able to live within adequate means. And still, with that statement I can already foresee some serious problems. There are simply not enough positions needed in the world (especially with automation and increased technological unemployment) that requires more humans. Production is incredible, but the need for labor isn't .

Comment:
Who wants to buy more and more cheap shit that breaks after a day or two? Is this really the height of our human civilisation, to be able to buy cheap shit and ruch to factory buildings and make them first? IF there was another civilisation coming here for a visit, how in hell do we explain this mess without totally loosing face? We can't, and thats proly why they have'nt showed up yet ;) This planet is an asylum, not the home of an advanced civilisation!

Comment:
This is the Utopian / 0 crime argument all over again. Has there ever been less than 3% unemployment in a sustainable situation (not spending into debt). And where there's also been prosperity & innovation? How about find the lowest number, try to model the situation, then tweak it if possible? Instead "Make some nationwide changes that have never been sustainable to get a result we've never gotten before." Even Mythbusters can understand prove small scale better than the PERI institute can

You have got to be ...
Comment:
You have got to be smarter than this. One of the times Pollin admitted to having his version of "full employment" was at the end of the 90s. So at the same time there was some of the lowest unemployment in history, there was also some of the HIGHEST automation in history. When things are automated are they way cheaper or more expensive? More ppl can buy cheaper things, they sell more. More leftover money to buy other things. A commodity backed dollar is a value unit of HUMAN labor.

Finally some smart comment. It is NOT coming back. Technology is changing everything. The Internet changed everything. NEVER in the human history, so much knowledge is available to so many people, so quick.
